Lucy was born with a duplicated chromosome, which impacted her growth and development. Due to this chromosomal abnormality, Lucy struggles with respiratory, mobility, vision, and cardiovascular problems daily. For years Lucy’s doctors have worked to uncover exactly what Lucy’s congenital disease is, but still do not know.
Lucy’s family discovered Make-A-Wish from a family friend, who also happened to be Make-A-Wish Utah volunteer. When Lucy found out that her condition qualified her to receive a wish, her family knew exactly where she would want to go! With Lucy’s love for music, color, and lights it made Walt Disney World® the perfect place for her to visit.
The trip to Walt Disney World was exciting because it was Lucy’s very first time flying on a plane. The first stop on Lucy’s trip was to her new home for the week, Give Kids the World Village®. An attraction within itself, Give Kids the World Village is an 82-acre nonprofit resort that caters to children battling a critical illness. During her stay, Lucy loved floating in all the pools, getting her daily airbrushed tattoo and exploring different games and activities with her family. One night, she was even tucked into bed by the village mayor, Mayor Clayton the Bunny!
“Give Kids the World made this the most amazing family trip we could have had with Lucy,” said Lucy’s mom. “It’s a wonderful atmosphere, and the volunteers bend over backwards for you!”
Lucy also had a blast exploring the Disney parks. Lucy’s family was worried that she would get overwhelmed by the crowds, but that was not the case. “Lucy enjoyed it! We were given special treatment, it wasn’t overwhelming at all!” Lucy’s mom said.
Lucy’s favorite moment from the trip was when she met Anna and Elsa from Disney’s Frozen. When the workers saw Lucy coming, they stopped the line and cleared out the crowd just for Lucy. She was able to meet both of the princesses all by herself and spend time with each one!
Lucy’s trip was full of firsts, and it is safe to say Lucy made memories that will last forever!
