Carter, 11, was diagnosed with a congenital cardiac condition the day he was born. Since then, he has undergone two open heart surgeries and multiple small procedures. For someone who has been through so much, Carter remains strong and is never short of a positive attitude. His family describes him as friendly, outgoing, and having a great sense of humor.
Carter loves snowmobiling, dirt biking, golfing, Legos, and adventure! When given the opportunity to make his wish, Carter surfed the web and was sold once he found a shark tank water slide! He wished to go to Atlantis Paradise Island Resort with his whole family.
Atlantis was filled with snorkeling, waterslides, and dolphins. Carter was able to build his own race car, learn how to make pottery, and hand-carve a pirate skull and baseball! It was Carter’s first time out of the country, and exactly the adventure he was hoping to take.
On his trip, Carter befriended another wish child, Beckam, and they spent the entire wish trip together. Both Carter and Beckam are from Utah and remain the best of friends after the trip. They Facetime together while playing video games and continue to bond over their fun wish memories.
Looking back, Carter’s family described his wish trip as a celebration of being a fighter. “It gave him a positive outlook on his disease,” Carter’s mom said. “We love Make-A-Wish! This trip helped bring us all closer together. You could just feel the amount of happiness it brought.”
