Carson's Wish to go to the Florida Theme Parks

Carson's wish to go to Walt Disney World

“ It gave us something to fight for. It was a goal to reach. ”

- Carson's Mom

Goofy and sweet are just a couple of words that can describe nine-year old Carson. He enjoys playing video games, kicking soccer balls, and splashing in the water. When he’s not out having fun in the sun, he loves watching movies—especially Guardians of the Galaxy.

Carson began having trouble with his vision and experiencing severe headaches. On July 31st, doctors found a tumor. The very next day, Carson had to undergo brain surgery to remove the cancer. Since then, treatment has consisted of radiation, chemotherapy, and frequent check-ups.

When Carson came to A Wishing Place to declare his wish, he knew he wanted to go to Walt Disney World® in Florida. He loved the idea of adventuring in the theme parks and just having fun with his entire family.

Walt Disney World® was full of fun and excitement for Carson. “Carson was still sick at the time; however, the wish trip gave him peace. He was the happiest kid in the world,” commented Carson’s mom. Carson loved getting to meet all of his favorite characters since he is a major fan of Superman, the Hulk, Iron man, and Star Wars. He also loved not having to wait in line at the theme parks—which meant going on every possible ride! Give Kids the World® Village was another favorite for Carson. He had a blast being able to do so much every day!

Carson’s wish allowed him to enjoy being a kid. When he initially learned about his wish being granted, it became a catalyst in his fight through chemotherapy. His mom said “it gave him something to fight for. It was a goal to reach. Once we were done with chemotherapy, this [wish trip] was what we had to look forward to.” The trip was also a celebration for Carson. “We were able to put the past two years behind and just start to heal [as a family]. This [wish trip] was where we started to heal,” she said.

Since his wish, Carson had begun to gain energy. He has returned to the soccer field, enjoys riding his bike, and his mom says he’s back to being a typical boy. Carson hopes to be a doctor when he grows up in order to give back and help others fighting through illnesses.

“This trip taught us how important it is to give,” Carson’s mom said. “We didn’t know the impact the wish trip could have in people’s lives. We needed something positive in our lives. Make-A-Wish lifted us up and brought hope. Sometimes things get hard, but there is always hope.”
