I’ve been a pediatric oncology social worker for 19 years, and referring kids to Make-A-Wish® Utah is one of the best parts of my job. Watching kids’ faces when they are dreaming and wishing is a beautiful thing. Some kids have very simple wishes, and I tell them to think and wish bigger. Their eyes get sparkly, a smile comes to their faces, and they are transported out of the hospital or clinic to a place of fun and imagination. Just thinking about a wish is healing and comforting. Make-A-Wish includes the entire immediate family, too. Often times, siblings’ needs are put aside while a child is undergoing cancer treatment. While the ill child is doing the wishing, the siblings benefit by being a part of the wish and enjoying special time together as a family. Make-A-Wish is so much more than a trip or a gift. It’s an amazing experience that brings families together and helps take away the hurt and fear. Please give generously to Make-A-Wish!
