“ I have never seen Simon smile so much than on his wish trip. ”

- Simon's Mom

Simon was only five weeks old when he was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis. Today, his daily routine consists of physical therapy, breathing treatments, multiple pill intakes, and supplemental tube feedings at night. Yet, that has not stopped him from enjoying his teenage life.

Simon was voted into his high school’s student body council for the upcoming school year and is on the mountain-biking team. He enjoys sports, swimming, video games, and is an honor student. His mom describes him as having a “dry sense of humor”. Simon’s sense of humor has been a catalyst throughout his health challenges.

Simon was granted his wish to see the Northern Lights in Finland. It was a trip of many firsts—his first time standing on the Arctic Circle, living in a snow environment, sledding with huskies, and feeding reindeer!

“I have never seen Simon smile so much than on his wish trip,” said Simon’s mom. “It was all pretty special, and he was happy the whole time.” This trip was an emotional and psychological game-changer for Simon. With incredible people pulling together for such an unforgettable wish, Simon felt so special. “It’s easy to forget that good things are going on,” Simon’s mom continued. “This wish renewed our view on the goodness of humanity.”

For now, Simon is enjoying the remainder of his summer break. Simon’s dad said the impact of his wish continues to influence his outlook on his condition. “It’s hard to measure the benefit of making a child feel special after their endurance through hardships,” his dad said. “Make-A-Wish gives wishes that grant kids better life outcomes. There’s a real physical benefit they receive from getting to do something so neat.”

Simon and his family also feel more connected to their community. “To see the community rally and band together for a worthy cause—that’s  something so unique, “explained Simon’s dad. “We are grateful for the generosity of neighbors, schools, and volunteers that rally together when faced with a good cause.”
