Three-year-old Tye thinks Despicable Me minions are just about the coolest thing on the planet. His favorite minion is Kevin, although some days he likes “the one with one eye” and other days it’s “the one with two eyes.” Tye is an outgoing little boy with an imagination not the least bit dulled by a cancer diagnosis or its corresponding treatments.
That said, the cancer treatments have taken a toll on Tye’s family. Tye is incredibly close with his older siblings, who find it difficult to watch their little brother struggle through recoveries. Often times, the power of a wish extends to an entire family, and in Tye’s case, a little wish magic went a long way.
When given the opportunity to declare a wish, Tye asked to meet his favorite characters at the theme parks in Florida. Although Tye visited all of the Orlando parks, one of his favorite places was Universal Studios® because this is where he got to see his beloved minions. He and his family also loved staying at Give Kids the World Village®—a 79-acre whimsical resort tailored to children with life-threatening medical conditions.
Tye and his siblings talk about his wish experience all of the time. His mom said that his wish impacted the entire family. She explained, “I don’t know that Tye made any correlation that he was going to his favorite theme park because of his illness, but it really helped the rest of the family – especially the kids, to heal.”
