Kimmie was born a beautiful healthy baby. When she was a toddler, she had her first seizure. Six months later, she started having them regularly. At the age of five, Kimmie had a catastrophic seizure that lasted for six hours.
Kimmie came back from this traumatic event, but continues to struggle daily with various types of seizures. In August of 2008, Kimmie was officially diagnosed with Dravet Syndrome.
Kimmie makes friends easily, and loves to be around people. The kitchen is her favorite place in the house and she spends lots of time cooking and mixing things up! She also enjoys watching the Cake Boss Buddy Valastro create one-of-a-kind confections on his hit TLC TV show.
It was only natural that this cheerful 15-year-old wished to meet Buddy and visit his factory in Lackawanna, New Jersey. It was the adventure of a lifetime, one that she was able to share with eight other Make-A-Wish® Kids!
The day started with a ride in a luxurious stretch limo which took them to the Cake Boss Factory where all were introduced to Buddy, his sisters and mama. Kimmie held Buddy’s hand as he showed everyone around his factory. He took them to the set where they film the show The Next Great Baker. He then listened as each Wish Kid described what kind of cake they wanted to create. Staff members worked individually with the Wish Kids to help make all of their delicious dreams come true. After their cakes were decorated, everyone went to Carlos Bakery where they were invited to choose whatever yummy treats they wanted to box up and take home.
Although she still suffers from many seizures, Kimmie remains happy and works tirelessly to educate others about epilepsy. The hope, strength and joy Kimmie felt on her wish trip helped make it an unforgettable experience, one that that she will cherish forever.
