Travis is a bubbly young boy who loves cars and racing. At only eight years old, Travis has already undergone three clinical treatments for an inherited neurological disorder; each incorporating new medications and procedures that take a toll on his energy and active life.
When presented with the opportunity to make a wish, Travis had rest and relaxation on his mind and asked to go on a “boat where he could sleep.” He also wanted to incorporate the plot of his favorite movie, Planes. In the movie, the main character Dusty crashes into the Pacific Ocean and is rescued near Mexico. After Dusty recovers from his injuries, he is afraid to fly again, but eventually conquers his fears to fly home and compete in a race. Like Dusty, Travis has his own set of challenges to overcome, which made his wish even more special when he said he wanted to be like Dusty and go to Mexico.
His wish was granted with a Mexican cruise.
Travis and his family left for their vacation right before Travis started his third clinical treatment. On the ship, Travis woke up early each morning to go play video games (one of his favorite activities) and enjoyed shore excursions with his family, like watching sea turtles hatch and even helping to dig up the eggs. Travis got to meet the ship’s captain, which was a special treat, and particularly liked watching the dolphins that followed behind the ship’s wake. His family describes the trip as an amazing experience that really helped to boost Travis’ energy before starting a new treatment. Travis had another description in mind; however, and throughout the trip continued to tell his parents “I’m just like Dusty!”
