“She’s a fish” mom stated as she described three-year old Raelynn. “You can find her digging in the dirt in a princess dress, too.” Raelynn loves the water and wouldn’t mind living in it. And although she can play in the mud with the best of them, she’s a princess at heart, too.
Raelynn began experiencing flu-like symptoms that quickly escalated to doctors discovering more serious symptoms. In September of 2014, Raelynn was diagnosed with leukemia.
As Raelynn began her leukemia treatments, she found out she would be granted a wish by Make-A-Wish® Utah. She did not hesitate to wish to go to Walt Disney World® Resort in Florida. This bright and bubbly little girl needed to visit her fellow princesses. Mom stated “Raelynn loves princesses and attention. She has no shy bone in her body. She just loves to sing and dance, and Disney World gave her all of that.”
The simplicity of being a family without the worries of treatment made all the difference during their wish trip. Raelynn was fearless on all of the rollercoaster rides. She loved her purple hotel room and even received a special visit from her favorite princess. Merida gave Raelynn her very own bow and arrow. This was quite memorable for Raelynn as her motto in life has been to “be brave.” The highlight of the trip was a talent show hosted by Give Kids the World Village. Raelynn participated in the talent show and was joined on stage by her favorite superhero: her dad!
Overall, the wish experience gave Raelynn strength. “We did Raelynn’s wish right at the end of her treatment, so this trip signified us moving on,” said Raelynn’s mom “It was the start of where we are now. It helped set the tone for the next couple of days, months, and years. Make-A-Wish changed my daughter’s life—they changed our whole family’s lives.”
