Sci-fi-loving, video-game-conquering, potato-chip-devouring Greyson is an outgoing and entertaining 7-year-old boy. Diagnosed with an extremely rare infant-onset neuromuscular disorder, many aspects of Greyson’s life have been more challenging for him than other children his age.
He has trouble breathing and eating, and something as seemingly simple as a common cough could end up being life-threatening for Greyson. Typically, Greyson has to be admitted for any illness he contracts, and over the past seven years, he has spent many days in hospitals. Although his family would visit regularly, they were often separated due to his illness.
Despite these challenges, Greyson has always kept a very positive attitude and loves to have fun. His wish trip to go to his favorite theme parks was the perfect opportunity for both Greyson and his loved ones to spend some quality time together making memories as a family.
Greyson’s trip to Orlando was his first time on an airplane. He and his family visited a total of five theme parks and stayed at Give Kids the World Village®
. Greyson loved riding all of the rides (especially Space Mountain) and meeting his favorite characters (Jack Skellington, Darth Vader, and Chewbacca). He explored Universal Studio’s Wizarding World of Harry Potter™ and even met a fellow Utahn at the Haunted Mansion gift shop who gave him a special self-portrait that turned into a ghost when turned a certain way.
Overall, Greyson’s family described the trip as a much needed break for everyone involved. “It has touched us to see the kindness and generosity of strangers,” said Greyson’s dad. “Hospital stays, treatments, loss of sleep, stress, disappointments – everything that comes with having a terminally ill child chips away at your soul. The many experiences with Make-A-Wish®have made us feel special and have helped to fill in some of those cracks.”
When Greyson was asked his thoughts on his wish, his response was: “It's been very important to me, but it's most important that I have my family.”
