Adriana, 7, was diagnosed with the highest risk category of leukemia right after her fourth birthday. She underwent many treatments, but did not begin to see results until she was transferred to a local children’s hospital.
There, Adriana’s medical team decided on a treatment, secured a blood donor, and scheduled a surgery for Adriana to receive a transplant.Only three weeks after the transplant, Adriana went home to enjoy Christmas with her family!
As long as she could remember, Adriana had always loved Hawaii. Her dad would sing Ziggy Marley’s Beach in Hawaii to her all the time. That song, along with Three Little Birds, relaxed Adriane during her treatments and hospital stays. She also enjoyed watching her favorite movie, Moana. So, when Adriana and her family learned she qualified to make a wish, Adriana knew exactly what she wanted. She asked to visit the subject of her favorite song and movie and see Hawaii in person!
Once on the island of Oahu, Adriana and her family were able to explore, splash in the waves and enjoy the ocean. Adriana’s all time favorite memory from Hawaii was being able to meet and swim with dolphins; but, there was one dolphin that was Adriana’s favorite: Nalu. Nalu was the dolphin who she shared her very first kiss with and she now calls her boyfriend!
“Adriana was so happy when she was playing on the beach with her sister. I know they were making memories that will last forever,” said Adriana’s mom. “This trip changed her life. It’s more than a gift it’s healing for mind, body, and soul.”
Both Adriana and her sister continue to speak of their Hawaiian adventures and memories, non-stop. Adriana cannot wait to go back to visit her dolphin Nalu. She asks her family to go at least once a week.
