“What are we baking today, mom?” four-year-old Jacob would ask each morning, for he loved the comfort, sweetness, and delicious aromas of home cooking. His mom knew that the stability of routine, and the warmth of a home steeped in love would help her son through a period filled with pain, uncertainty, and confusion as Jacob struggled with an aggressive brain tumor.
When he had a chance to make his wish, Jacob said, “I want to be a baker because I want to spank the dough.”
On his wish day, friends and family accompanied him on a baking extravaganza, when he learned how to make bread, pizza, and scrumptious desserts. A local bakery even created a menu item called “Jacob’s loaf” in his honor. The day wrapped up with a party and lots of baking gifts to keep Jacob busy long after the wish day was over.
